Joint Mobilization

Sometimes joints don’t glide and move as they should.  This can be assessed by visual movement and by feeling how the joints move.  Since 1998, APTA’s Guide to Physical Therapist Practice has defined mobilization/manipulation as “a manual therapy technique comprised of a continuum of skilled passive movements that are applied at varying speeds and amplitudes, including a small amplitude/high velocity therapeutic movement.”

The key to understanding mobilization is knowing the areas that don’t need to be mobilized and should be protected. We want you to be self-sufficient.  We want to give you the tools you need to keep yourself strong and moving as you should.
